Jazz
1909 was a very important year in the history of the drum set. 1909 was the year William Ludwig put a patent on one of the first bass drum pedals. This is also the era when jazz music was becoming a popular musical genre in New Orleans and the southern United States. Jazz music is based on African rhythms and European harmonies.
